Listography - Top 5 cartoon characters from your youth

The lovely Kate has a Listography theme this week that takes me back to days spent in front of just 3 channels (NB to my children - Yes when I was young we ONLY had 3 channels, even Channel 4 didn't happen til I was a teen)

Kate would like to know your 5 favourite cartoon characters from your youth.  There were so many I watched in the time school finished til tea was ready on the table but here's my top 5 in no particular order:

Murun Buchstansangur (approx 1994)

Can you remember this cartoon gem?  It was a most unusual animation, often shown as a gap filler inbetween programs. I don't know why but the name has stuck in my head since I was young and I have fond memories of the title music.

Batfink

His wings were like a shied of steel!! With his sidekick karate, Batfink was made before I was born but was shown in the 80's again and I loved it.  He heard all sorts of things with his Super Sonic radar ears - Classic!

Topcat

Another strap line that stays in my head and comes up when I see Topcat is the words "Hey TC" which was said in a drooled american style by Topcat's friend Benny.  The best set of alley cats in the world.

Willow The Wisp

One of the most strangest cartoon I can remember and came on at 5.35pm on BBC1 and I don't remember it making much sense but I loved the voice of Kenneth Williams (from the Carry On films) who did the voiceover.  His narration made it a favourite teatime watch.

Scooby Doo

This was my favourite and I use the strapline myself even now..."And I would have got away with it it if hadn't had been for those meddling (or sometimes pesky was used) kids"

I loved the bats in the opening credits and as I got older realised that they only ever had one set of clothes that they wore every day.  I never liked Scrappy Doo or the cousin that showed up in some episodes and absolutely hate the recent remakes of the films with actors in them - pah you will never be as good as the original!

Listography - Top 5 Random things I like

Listography is doing something that I do best - being random!  Kate has simply asked for the Top5 random things I like and that's a good enough suggestion for me.

1) I like to roll Blu-Tack between my fingers until it gets so soft it literally drips... It's true heat it between the fingers for long enough and that is what happens - try it!

2) I like thunder and lightening - and yes I do still count between the bangs and flashes to see how many miles away it is..

3) I like the smell of cigarettes when just lit - not enough to start myself after giving up when pregnant with Tala but I certainly inhale the aroma and then remind myself I don't smoke because I hate the smell of it on your clothes.

4) I like washing clothes! I get a great sense of satisfaction to see it all clean and swaying in the breeze on the washing line - now that verging on weird never mind random!

5) I like to think that everything happens for a reason and although it may not make sense now it will at some point in my life hopefully.

Listography - Top 5 celebrities I would like to go for a beer with...

*Holds hands up* I am far from a celebrity lover - not even stopping at the magazine counter to flick the pages of a magazine oohhing and ahhing at the latest fashion faux pas or affairs of the rich and the famous.

I do however have a few that I would like to meet so as Kate's Listography choice this week is Top 5 celebs I would like to go for a beer with though..

Janet Street Porter

I have always admired JSP for her ability to express herself and to not really give a damn about what people think.  I know people don't always like this quality in a person but I have to say I would really like to go for a beer with her.  I love her no nonsense approach to life and this was made even more so when I was bought her book 'Life's too f***king short' are a present - fantastic read! Go Janet!

Lord Sugar

He fascinates me and I have a small strange 'older man crush' on him.  Not sure if its the power or him but hell would like to find out over a beer or two.

Another no nonsense talker... hhhmmm I must have an attraction for it.

Jordan, Katie Price


Just so I can tell her to her face that I do not care what she is wearing, reading, writing, sleeping with or just looking at.  Come on lady buy me a beer and put down the media love/hate manipulation thing for 5 minutes and chill.  I am not convinced we would have anything in common but it would be a challenge to sit and chat to say the least.

Angelina Jolie


As close to a girl crush as I could imagine.  Would love to see what she is like in 'real life' and talk about kids and things.  She seems a genuine sort of soul (in a celebrity type way)

Listography - Top 5 places I would like to visit

Kates Listography takes us travelling this week with the theme of the Top 5 places you would like to visit.

In my time I have travelled to many beautiful places and there are still many more I would like to discover.  Here's my Top 5 travel wishes.

Niagra Falls, Canada

The majestic Niagra Falls

Ever since I saw the Marilyn Monroe film 'Niagra' I have longed to see the falls closeup.  I would love to travel along on the Maid of The Mist  boat and feel the water spray on my face and take in the pure wonder of the Falls.

Barbados

Nr Sam Lords Castle, Barbados

I have been lucky enough to have visited Barbados and stayed at the Sam Lords Castle Resort which sadly was, I believe, destroyed in a fire last year.  The beaches in Barbados are stunning and so quiet.  I walked each morning before breakfast along the shore with my feet in the water and never since have I felt so relaxed.  I would love to return to the Island and make some more memories.

Ayers Rock, Australia

What an amazing sight..

I have never been to Australia but Ayers Rock would be on my 'to visit' list should I go.  It is beautiful and I should imagine photo's do it no justice. Stunning.

Grand Canyon, USA

I would NOT be up there looking down!

I know so many people that have visited the Grand Canyon and I would love to have the chance.  Although my fear of heights would stop me standing looking down I would love to witness the Canyon by perhaps camping at the few camp sites at the bottom of it.

Alaska

Imagine that close up!

Alaska and in particular the Northern Lights, is again a sight I would like to see for real.  Although I do not like the cold Alaska would still be a 'yes please' in my travel wish list. My husband as always said he would like to live in Alaska but the 6 months of darkness must be very hard.

As you can see from my choices it's all about the view, sights and atmosphere for me with travel destinations.  Now if only I had the funds.....

Listography...5 Products You Couldn't Live Without meme

Kate at Kate Takes 5 has a Listography meme that I have decided to join (hope that's alright Kate?!)

This weeks theme is 5 products that you couldn't live without.... Hmmm just 5 will be tough as I take so many great time saving products for granted every day.  Do I go for luxury, time saving or downright cannot function without products?! Here is my Top 5.

5 products I couldn't live without....


Washing machine:
I know, I know how sad you are thinking but seriously as a Mum of 3 at home children and a husband that works outside, my washing machine is my best appliance friend!  I am also sad enough to wash Tala's baby clothes separately to mine and the other 2 childrens and my husband washes his separately to ours.  As I also use washable nappies these need washing every day so our poor little overworked machine deserves a mention in my top 5.

Mobile phone:
My mobile phone is great for taking photo's and is actually better than my digital camera.  I put it in my top 5 purely for this reason as I hate mobiles for their real use and pine for the days when I could go out and not be bothered by anyone - not a possibility now with not just phone calls and texts, but Twitter, Facebook and email pinging happily away on my mobile. The mobile phone is great for snapping photo's at any photo opportunity.

Yankee Candles:
I am yet to find (but am trying!) a stronger and nicer smelling range of wax tart candles for my candle burner.  As someone who doesn't drink or smoke they really are a small piece of smelly heaven for me. My favourite is the Clean Cotton smell that smells like a well known fabric conditioner right in my hallway - fabulous! I love the way my mood and spirit is lifted when a wax tart is burning.

Skimmed milk:
I really don't like anything other than skimmed milk since I discovered, aged about 13, that there was more than 'blue' milk in the world!  My Mum just bought full fat milk and it was like a miracle when my school friend gave me a glass of milk that didn't make me feel sick - aaahh skimmed milk was my new favourite and has been ever since.  I can tolerate semi-skimmed for politeness when at friends but 'skinny' or skimmed is my milk of choice.

Sky+ box:
And not for the reasons you expect... but because my husband watches crap! I mean documentaries, survival programmes and 'real life' series about tree fellers! Seriously had I known this at the beginning! I only watch a few select programmes and without my Sky+ box great things like 'The Good Wife' 'In Treatment' and 'Waterloo Road' would be lost amongst my husbands endless recordings.  Horror movies are the only thing we agree on as far as what's on the box, mind you when I am blogging he has to have something to watch so it works quite well really.

NB whilst I type this my husband is watching a documentary type thing called Warriors, which looks back at the different types of warriors through time - yawn!!
