Having raised (and still raising) 4 children I do think I am able to say that they are happy, secure and confident children that are all very unique in their own ways. I adore newborns, find toddlers challenging (as they can be!) relish their ability to adapt to school, watch them grow and actually enjoy parenting teens. My 19 year old son is a well rounded individual that I am proud to call my son. Pre-teen is at that stage of pushing boundaries in her quest to become a teen and young adult, Middle Son is challenging at times but has a sweet disposition and Tala is a joy (long may that be the case)
Challenges line the parenting road and strategies to help the journey are vital and there is always techniques to learn and help. There are others willing to impart knowledge and books to read.
Alan Wilson's book "How to be a Parent Champion and Add Magic to your Family" is one source of parenting information. It is unusual in that it does not simply tell you 'what to do' but gives you a series of personal development exercises showing you how to be happy and comfortable yourself, making a better parent and advising how to be a 'Parent Champion' to your family, perhaps easing the sometimes stressful road of raising children. It also offers free ongoing support within a community of like-minded parents.
It helps us to see our children from a different perspective, teaching us about better communication, coping with challenges and becoming a parent champion. It is an empowering read.
This book offers new tools and techniques to help us take a new approach to life and parenting. Difficult times can impact upon family relationships, and hinder the channels of communication and this book helps with techniques to combat this. The four main tools used are:
Levels of listening and the energetic connection
The power of thought
The success diary
SMART goals
The author looks at life-coaching and the ability to understand, empathize and express emotions in our own lives and therefore making it easier to incorporate this within our own family structures. We can learn to listen to our children, validate them and help them to achieve their potential through support, respect and appreciation. Sharing your life with another is a wonderful experience that can be fun and full of laughter.
This exercises in the book gave my family and I a starting point to look at our goals, successes and what we as a family find important. As with everything there are always areas where we can make personal improvements. I found am not very good at really listening to my children and hearing what they are really saying and this book encouraged me to do just that. This opens the lines of communication and allows children to confidently express themselves - a valuable tool in their future lives. If you would like to see what the book has to offer you and your family "How To Be A Parent Champion" is available from Amazon for £9.99.
