Review - Rockfords Rock Opera

When I saw the title of Rockfords Rock Opera I was conjuring up images in my head of rock music put together to form an opera, how wrong was I ?!

Rockfords Rock Opera is a delightful 3 CD musical journey that has an appeal to my 11 year old daughter, 9 year old son and me (I have to say I really enjoyed listening to it)
Rockfords Rock Opera
The story begins in Battersea, London - home of the power station and of course Battersea Dogs Home and it follows Rockford (a dog) Moog (his human) and their adventures to and on the Island of Infinity.  I asked my daughter (11 years) to listen to it and at first she wasn't sure it was for her as reading stories is more her thing.  We started to listen together and I asked after the first CD for her thoughts on what she had heard.  Her comments were these....

"I can really imagine what their adventures are like!"
"Their is a lot of detail in the story and it gets me involved"
"I really liked the Narrators voice better when he reads than sings but it sort of goes with it all"

I think she was surprised how much it was enjoyed considering her initial doubts - I left her listening happily and once she found out that the books inside the CD case contained the words to the songs she even joined in with them!

Song lyrics means you can sing along....
My 9 year old son went to bed with the CD and he even fell asleep listening to it.  This morning I asked him his thoughts and he said it was so soothing that it made him fall asleep! I have to admit the Narrators voice is very soothing and calming.  As mentioned the pack contains 3CDs and within each CD case there is the CD itself, a small accompanying book with song lyrics and a fold out cover with pictures of the characters.  The lyrics book also contains illustrations and really helps you build up an idea of how each character looks and acts.

As an adult I thought the CDs would make a really good addition to any car journey as the 3 CDs in total play for over 2 and a half hours but you can easily stop and then pick up the story again as they are broken down into smaller sized pieces in the same way a music CD would be.

The Island of Infinity is actually made up of one of every extinct species of animal and so it also has an underlying message about extinction and the effect we have on our planet which I really liked.  Another great thing is that there is an accompanying website - www.rockfordsrockopera.com that contains information on important issues about extinction as well as fun stuff, lyrics and a whole host more that I don't want to spoil.

You can also download part one (52 mins long) from there and find out exactly what Rockfords Rock Opera is all about for yourself.

A beautifully imaginative story that I can listen to with my children - I really do think it will have an appeal to all age groups. Visit Rockfords Rock Opera and start your journey.....
