My nappy challenge - an update...

Last month I challenged the nappy companies to find me a nappy that fitted this criteria:
"I would like a nappy that is as environmentally friendly as possible, without harsh chemicals and ideally organic, absorbent and practical but is not bulky and will not hinder Talas movement and gives him room to manoeuvre without a bulk behind!"
One company that was up to my challenge was Baba and Boo.  They sent me three of their reusable nappies to try and see if they were up to my challenge!

Baba & Boo washable nappies
I had not seen the range before and on first impression they seemed like other brands I had used in the past as far as design went.  I adored the designs I was sent and the other designs in the range are so funky which is not something I have seen on such a wide scale before.

Geometric Funk
Baba & Boo nappies are a 'pocket nappy' which combines a poly/cotton outer (plain or patterned) with waterproof lining and a set of two towelling inserts designed to be put inside the pocket of the nappy outer.  I find this design easier than pre-fold nappies which require the insert to be folded before placing in the outer.  Pocket nappies were not around, to my knowledge, when my first 3 children were in nappies and I have to say I find them so easy to use.

Each nappy and insert has a popper system which allows them to be adjusted to your own babies fit.  It also means the towelling insert can be adjusted to provide extra absorbency
where it is needed - usually at the front for little boys!

Poppers allow the nappy to be fitted to your needs.
Nappy outer comes complete with two inserts.
I opted to add a throwaway liner on top of the nappy once I had stuffed the 2 inserts in the nappy pocket.  This liner is designed to stop any 'nappy solids' from sticking to the nappy - they are optional and not included with the nappies but can be purchased from many retailers that stock re-useable nappies.

I found the Baba & Boo nappy design different once I started using them. Unlike other brands where the nappy is secured in place at each side by 2 poppers, one above the other usually, the Baba & Boo nappy was secured together in 3 places on each side, 2 poppers one above the other (as with other brands) but then also a 3rd popper that was slightly further along from these.  This extra popper secured the nappy really well and I have to say I thought the addition was a clever idea.  It provided a really snug fit and ensured that the nappy was really secure to avoid any leaks.

The inserts and outers washed really well (please always follow manufacturers washing instructions and wash before first use) and were lovely and soft feeling.  I washed them at 60 degrees and they did not shrink or change in shape or consistency even after several washes.  As my challenge required they allowed Tala to be able to move and he seemed to have hardly any problem in sitting up in them.

I have to say I really liked the Baba & Boo nappies and the extra popper fixing made them stand out from others I have used in the past.  Add to this the fantastic choice of designs and the excellent price point of the nappies (Geometric Funk Limited Edition design just £9.75 plus P&P)  The design makes them as easy to use as any disposable and the drying times were excellent.  Well worth a look!

The range has also recently been awarded the Loved by Parents award for best re-useable nappy so I can't be the only one that loves them!  Thanks to Baba & Boo for stepping up to my challenge.
