Persil Small & Mighty is it unbeatable even in 30 minutes??

When it comes to washing and laundry I have to say it is a necessity and I am far from the smiling housewife stirring a saucepan of 'spag bol', darning socks with my spare hand waiting for the washing machine to finish !!

I was recently sent the new Persil Small & Mighty to try out and give my opinion on so here's what I thought....

Biological Small & Mighty:

I have to admit I have bought Small & Mighty about 3 times since its launch and only when it was on offer.  I rarely use biological washing liquids as I only use non-bio on Tala's clothes so it seems a waste of time to have one for him and one for the rest of the household.

The new Small & Mighty M30 boasts that it is 'unbeatable even in 30 minutes'.  Drawback one to trialling this claim - does any ones washing machine actually have a 30 minute cycle?  My fastest cycle is a rapid wash at 1 hour so I used that for my trial.

I washed what I would call a general wash load and the first thing that struck me was the gorgeous small that came from the liquid!  I found myself taking the lid of and just smelling it and once the clothes are washed the smell is still very evident, so much so that I found Pre-teen sniffing the towels drying on the line!!!  Her comments were "Can we buy this again - I love the smell"  The clothes were well cleaned and no stains were evident so I have to say it passed my capability tests.  I got slightly less washes from the container than advertised but that was because it is based on a 7KG machine and mine is a 9KG.

With having a young baby I was looking forward to testing the non-biological Small & Mighty on his washing especially his washable nappies and bibs!

Bibs would put the liquid to the test!!
Non-biological Small & Mighty:

The smell from the non-bio version is far less evident and I have to say I was surprised it smelled at all.  My normal washing liquid of choice for Tala is by Method and it is plant derived.  I sort of expected the same ingredients in the Small & Mighty and was dissapointed to see perfume included in the list and doubted that the ingredients were plant derived but it only listed the anionic and non-anionic surfactants (yes I love reading labels and choose my shopping based on what is or rather what isn't included in a product!) But all that said the proof would be in the washing....

Again at a 1 hour rapid wash cycle it easily dealt with washing nappies but one did have a slight staining left afterwards as did the bibs but the clothes themselves were washed well and I had no concerns about these.  I tried another wash and again the bibs were still looking grubby - perhaps I am expecting too much from any washing liquid but the usual brand seems to be better at cleaning these types of items but only just.  I don't think I have found a non-biological washing liquid that can make stains disappear completely especially when it comes to baby items.

All in all I loved the smell of the bio Small & Mighty but was not totally convinced that either the bio or the non-bio version was better than the product I already use.  I think if it was on offer in the supermarket I may buy it again but I feel 'happier environmentally' to continue with my plant based, biodegradable washing liquid.
