All aboard the Polar Express

One of the things I love most about Christmas is spending time with the children watching films.

There is something about sitting back, relaxing and becoming totally absorbed in the complete movie experience that cannot be beaten and in our house it really spells Christmas for us.

One film that I hadn't seen before was the Polar Express although it is my daughters favourite festive film so thanks to Warner Brothers we jumped aboard.

The Polar Express
The film follows a small boy who starts to doubt that Santa is real after reading some bad press about the man in red being a fake and after looking up the North Pole in a book and finding out it is 'devoid of life' he decides that he is no longer going to be involved and stop believing.  When he is woken at Midnight on Christmas Eve by the Polar Express he embarks on a magical stream train journey to the North Pole in the search of Santa existence.  On his way he discovers the magic of Christmas, family and most importantly believing.

Reading about the North Pole makes up his mind.
The Polar Express arrives for its passenger
The film is animated with the unmistakable Tom Hanks playing the part of the Conductor of the Polar Express but I am undecided whether or not the character animation is meant to resemble him or not which is quite off putting.  I was not keen on the animation myself but that's the part my daughter loves the best as she describes it as " like a person but like a cartoon - it's hard to know the difference when you are watching it"

I think I have got to used to state of the art animation and have forgotten the joy of just being totally engrossed in a film no matter what the graphics.  My daughter has reminded me that 'its the story that counts' - I stand corrected!

Tom Hanks as The Conductor
The film is perfect for curling up on the sofa to watch and enjoy with the children and Pre-teen has watched it in bed every night since it arrived - told you she likes it!

The Polar Express is out now on 3D DVD but we enjoyed the standard version thanks to Warner Brothers.

Do you believe?
