HABA Ambassador review - Technics Building Blocks Vehicles (large set)

Moving on with my reviews for HABA next is the Technics Building Blocks Vehicles (large set). Straight away I knew this would be a winner in our house.

Although the box states the set is suitable from age 3+ (there are some small parts to the set) the larger pieces were happily played with by Tala (aged 14 months) under supervision.  Both he and Middle Son (aged 10 years) spent ages building and designing their own vehicles - well Tala mainly pushed them along!

An impressive and comprehensive building set

The set contains wooden blocks and shapes in varying sizes and colours along with rubber wheels that slide and clamp onto the blocks so they become vehicles.  There are also green plastic connectors that secure into the wheels underneath so you have the added capability to pull trailers.  The set was very comprehensive and contained a considerable number of blocks. Middle Son set to work straight away!

I really liked the added ability to connect vehicles to other vehicles which in turn made the possibilities for play  endless.  The rubber wheels were very easy to clamp onto the blocks and were very robust and I am sure they would withstand years of use and being clamped and unclamped time and time again. Middle Son loved all the variations in design he could achieve just by changing a few blocks and even managed to get a few blocks to connect at an angle as the rubber 'clamp' held firmly.

The set also included connectors in the same material as the wheels that enabled blocks to be attached to the main vehicle either on top of behind the main block or even at an angle!

So simply adding a connector (see the front of the vehicle below) it could go from this....

 

....to this just by adding a block!

The set provided hours of building (and pushing along in Talas case) fun and I am sure it will be used time and time again.  My only criticism is that some of the sides on a couple of the blocks felt more un-sanded than others and some were rougher than others because of it.

With other sets available that can be added to this set you could build till your hearts content and the set would be great for boys and girls alike.  I would highly recommend this set if you are looking for any type of construction or building sets.
