We spend a lot of time on the move in our family, with school runs to swim training practice 5 days a week, car journeys are not just an everyday occurrence but a several times a day occurrence!! Sometimes it is necessary to eat on the move and Tala is happy to join in of course.
We have been trying the Hipp Organic snack range called Little Nibbles which includes fruit bars, rice cakes and corn puffs amongst other scrummy tasters.
We had already tried the Apple Elephant Biscuits before and Tala seems to really enjoy these. They are a great size for little ones hands and don't break too easily and leave lots of crumbs, my pet hate is all the crumbs left in the carseat! They have a lovely apple taste but are not too sweet and contain no added sugar which is the first thing I look for on the packet.
We also tried the Squiggly Corn Puffs which reminded me of a well known brand of snacks but without the cheese flavouring. I really didn't like this as it felt like I was feeding him junk food. I hold my hands up and admit I do not agree with giving Tala (and my other children when they were under 3) anything that I classify as sweets, crisps, chocolate etc. I know this may be seen as too strict or over the top but they cannot miss or ask for something they have not had and they only know about these types of foods if we give them to them after all. I will not be buying the Squiggly Puffs again for this reason and because they really were bland in my opinion.
Two snacks that were far from bland were the Peach and Apple Fruit Bar with cereal and the Plum and Apple version. They were individual fruit bars that were easy for Tala to break into smaller pieces himself or just bite a piece off. They were again no added sugar and I have to say the flavours were well combined in the pieces I tasted. Tala certainly liked them!
Finally we tried the Tomato and sweet red pepper rice cakes. I already buy the apple rice cakes in the Little Nibbles range and always have a pack in the car. I wasn't as keen on the Tomato and sweet red pepper variety for a number of reasons. Firstly in my head rice cakes should be sweet not savoury - don't know why just how I think they should be. Secondly the rice cake colour left Talas fingers covered in red - it seemed to get everywhere! Lastly I didn't like the taste (and Tala seemed to agree) again I think it is mainly because I think rice cakes are more sweet than savoury snacks. I would also like to see them packaged in smaller individual portion packs that are resealable as the current bag makes it hard for them to be stored after they have been opened and my cupboard ends up filled with Tupperwares full of different rice cakes and corn puffs.
As a loyal Hipp Organic user (Tala and all my others were given Hipp Organic baby formula after they finished being breast feed) I have to say the Little Nibbles range is certainly helpful although I do have my reservations about giving snacks to babies, but at least they have no added sugar and are not full of colours and flavourings. For babies and children on the go they are great to keep in the car for emergency hunger pangs!!
