I know a teething necklace seems a strange idea - I thought the same! Gumigem! are teething necklace's made from materials similar to those on baby teethers. Basically the teething part is the 'pendant' on the end of a piece of strong cord fastened with a 'breakaway' clasp. The necklace is worn by the mother and the pendant provides an instant baby teether.
The pendant is BPA, lead, latex and Phtalate free and can easily be sterilised or put in a dishwasher just be removing the cord - a simple yet clever idea!.

At first Tala was unsure and grabbed for the item to play with rather than put in his mouth, but as with all teething babies it soon ended up there (as do almost all things at the moment!) Once he worked out he could 'bite' on the pendant he did just that. At 4 months he is not totally confident with his hand - eye co-ordination but the size of the pendant made this no obstacle. It is large enough for small hands to grab whilst not being too big for everyday wear for the mother. I must add that the necklace is intended to be worn by the caregiver and babies should never be left unattended with the item.
Priced at £10.50 for the pendant I was given to try, but with prices from £8.00 there are 2 designs in a variety of colours. This would make an unusual and thoughtful gift for a new mother/baby or just to buy for your own child.
Summary:
Great simple yet effective aid for teething babies. Reasonably priced in a choice of designs. My only criticism is that I would have liked to see the pendant with less or no 'shimmer' in the design (just my personal taste there!)
