Does washing day make you grey? Turn it white!

I think I may be a little OCD when it comes to washing clothes and even said the same on my recent Listography.

As with all of my 4 children when they were babies, I do not wash Tala's clothes with ours.  I tend to use different washing liquid for a start and as it can be none to nice with it's dirty bibs and nappy creamed vests I think it is best to just wash it together on it's own.  As I like darker baby clothes rather than the more 'traditional' baby blue items this can also mean several washing loads because of the white vests and bibs he wears.

Talas' typical clothes pile
Recently I have been trying out Colour Catcher when washing his clothes.  It is a small sheet that you put in the back of the machine drum with your clothes before washing in the normal way.

Add the Colour Catcher sheet before washing
The sheet then catches any colour dye or dirt on the sheet rather than it discolouring your whites.  No more extra washing loads and grey rather than white clothes.

I was happy to test out the sheets when doing Talas laundry and the above photo is before the mixed colour wash and below is what came out of the machine after...

You can see the whites don't look grey and the reason is this...

Unused Colour Catcher sheet is behind
I could clearly see that there had been dye that came out in the wash but it was trapped in the Colour Catcher sheet and not in his vests.  I will be adding a sheet to every wash from now on and also cutting down on the amount of loads (and energy needed to run them!) by doing more mixed colour washes as I will be confident that the sheet will catch any excess colour.  Makes it perfect for his washable nappies as white inners and bright nappy outers can also now be washed together - happy washing days.
