Kia Sedona my chariot for the Tots 100 Christmas Party 2011

I have not been requested, suggested or paid to write this post, I have written it because simply I want to.

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity, thanks to Sally Whittle,  to drive a Kia Sedona to the Tots 100 Christmas party at Butlins over the weekend.  I was really nervous as the Sedona was a manual gearbox which is something I had not driven for nearly 3 years since changing to an automatic for my own car.  Not only that but there was no handbrake... but in it's place was a foot/handbrake so effectively instead of my normal 2 pedals I would have in my auto I was now faced with 4 pedals and a 5 hour drive to Bognor Regis - gulp!

Also with no Sat Nav on board I was driving solo (apart from my eldest son riding sidecar!)  We set off at 2pm and I must have stalled it so many times in the first 15 minutes that in the end my 19 year old, who himself is learning to drive, started to have to remind me to be in first gear every time I stopped.

After about 15 minutes and now on to a dual carriageway, so no gear changes to worry about, I was soon in my element.  The car was so smooth to drive especially as my own car has done 244 thousand miles and is very tired. The Kia Sedona was a chariot in comparison and I felt like it was pure luxury on wheels.  With the model I drove boasting electric rear doors and electric boot door you could drop the kids off at school and open the doors and boot for them without having to ever leave the safe warm haven of the cars exterior - am I a bad persons for noticing that advantage?!

Over the 4 days I had the Kia I drove 660 miles of pure driving bliss and I can honestly say it did not feel that many.  The seats were comfortable and indulgently warmed my bottom as I drove (such a hard life) and the miles passed by in a whirl of comfort.  With 7 seats there was plenty of space and with the 5 of us and luggage it was no challenge with the removal of 1 of the rear seats.  The seats are very easy to remove and although heavy are straightforward to store as they fold compactly.

I drove on dual carriageways, motorways, went shopping in it, did the school run and as we live in what some may classify as a rural location we could be on mud tracks one moment and tarmac roads the next so I got a good feel for how the car drove in a good variety of conditions.  The Sedona was happiest on the motorway (it even has cruise control) but still handles the more rural roads very well.

To share my thoughts on the car I have made a little video:

So was it comfortable to drive?       YES

Would I recommend it?                        YES

Do I want one?                                              NO .........I NEED ONE!!
.

Share It !
